EDC Flashlight Buyer’s Guide
EDC Flashlights are handy tools that can help you in your daily activities. Choosing the best EDC Flashlight can be tricky and time-consuming. You may even find yourself lost in choosing your Flashlight as there are many different options to choose from in the market. The need for getting one is clear, and shopping for the best can be overwhelming. Worry no more as we created a guide for you to choose the best EDC flashlight that’s suitable for your daily needs.
EDC Flashlight Buyers Guide Topics:
- Size
- LED Selection
- Feature-set
- Battery/Charging
- Carry Options
- Other Considerations
Size
EDC should always be practical. The size of the Flashlight is one of the things you will want to consider. It must fit inside your pocket or hang on your keychain. Portability and ease of access to your EDC Flashlight are the main points in having this in your EDC collection.
Aim for a size that will fit comfortably in your hand. You would not want something bulky as it defeats the purpose of being an EDC. The size also affects the light output of the Flashlight. Larger sizes usually have larger batteries which means higher light output.
Flashlight Interface
EDC flashlights are more compact and portable that your traditional search and utility lights. It is always in a standby mode wherein problematic scenarios where Light is crucial is needed for alight source. An excellent and intuitive interface is a must when you use it in dark areas. Having an easy-to-use interface makes the Flashlight easy to use and operate while in the dark. The interface for low-light situations is one of the features of this Flashlight. Buttons are tactile and felt by the hand quickly. It must be easy to turn on even if the lights are out.
Power Source
You should pick the power source for your EDC flashlight that’s suitable for your daily lifestyle. You may choose traditional AAA or AA batteries. These batteries are accessible in almost every store you find. Finding replacements are cheap and easy to find. The drawback is that you can’t recharge these batteries. You can charge these kinds of batteries, but a specific charger must be with you all the time which defeats the purpose of an EDC flashlight. You can keep your EDC Flashlight simple by choosing one that is rechargeable. A USB cable can recharge most of these. Easily recharge the batteries at home or work. It can also keep your daily gear to a minimum as you don’t need an external charger.
Output Level
There are personal preferences for the Light Output Level for EDC Flashlights. It would help if you considered what you would use the Flashlight for your daily activities. If your EDC relies on needing small output of Light, then a low lumen rating is excellent. These are good for everyday scenarios like looking under your desk for lost items or things that you have dropped on the floors of your car. Jobs that require an adequate light source like Cops and Car Mechanics, then a more powerful Lumen rating is necessary.
If you are wondering how many lumens you need, then you must consider how far the Light travels. For a few yards away from your body, a few hundred Lumens is enough. If you need Light that has to travel farther and cover large areas, then a 1000 Lumen or higher is preferred. Most of the EDC Flashlights have large output ranges, but it is your personal preference that will determine what ideal range you will get.
Carrying Options
Pocket Clip – Carrying your EDC Flashlight should be easy and convenient. A good and secure pocket clip can make handling your Flashlight much better. This accessory is small and can be easily misplaced. A Pocket clip keeps it organized and in place. Pocket clips not only secures your Flashlight but also gives you a flexible position in directing your Light. You can clip it anywhere hands-free. It can come in handy in situations wherein you need Light while working with your hands.
Lanyard – A lanyard or holster is also a good option. These can keep your Flashlight with you all the time. There will be times wherein you won’t like EDC flashlights in your pocket. Lanyards and holsters enable you to place it where you want comfortably. Some EDC Flashlights have a magnetic tail cap which makes it a hands-free Light source. Car mechanics would love this feature as they can stick it anywhere on the car that is metal and then efficiently work with the aid of a Light source.
